Loads of fans have been reacting to a suggestion made by Adrian Durham on talkSPORT regarding Aston Villa defender Matt Targett and England’s Euro 2020 squad.
The radio presenter admitted he has been impressed by what he has seen from the 24-year-old this season and believes he could be a part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championship. Having featured inconsistently in the current campaign, Durham is not entirely convinced with Danny Rose’s chances, while he also raised concerns over Ben Chilwell’s form of late.
Targett has certainly made an impact for the Villans following his move from Southampton last summer. He, of course, scored in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final win against Leicester City and is currently averaging 1.2 crosses per Premier League game (via WhoScored).

It is the joint-highest average in Villa’s squad, showing the attacking threat he could bring to this England side from the left-back position. Still, with the tournament not far away and the former Southampton man yet to be included in one of Southgate’s squads, it is hard to imagine him getting the nod over the likes of Rose and Luke Shaw, who could be set to compete with Chilwell for a starting berth.
You can have a look at what football supporters from various clubs have been saying on the matter below…
No where near England class and that’s from a Villa fan. Having an Ok season and building a good relationship on the left with Grealish but shouldn’t even be considered

Ben Chillwell is 10 times the player Target is

Even as a Villa fan – not a chance in a back four, if we switched to a 3/5 at the back then maybe.
He switches off far too often defensively playing as a full back. As a wing back hes much better.

Targett is not international level

Left back used to be such a strong position now it’s one of our weakest. What has happened to Rose, Shaw, Gibbs, ssesegnon. Chilwell has to be a starter and then yes maybe Target.

Sorry I’m a Villa fan and this is laughable

Ben Chilwell and Charlie Taylor on form this season.

Is that the same player that faked an eye injury in the derby with @Wolves because @AdamaTrd37 absolutely wreaked him
