Brighton striker Neal Maupay grabbed his seventh Premier League goal of the season after he opened the scoring in his side’s 1-1 draw against rivals Crystal Palace last night.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Aston Villa in the summer but went on to join Graham Potter’s side instead, with Dean Smith admitting that he did not want to pay the kind of money Brentford were demanding for the forward.

“I felt we had to walk [away] at the stage it got to,” Smith told Sky Sports (via Birmingham Live) back in October when speaking about the club’s negotiations for Maupay.
But with Wesley struggling and Maupay firing, it appears some fans are not happy with the decision to sign the former in the end.
The Brazilian, who has four Premier League goals to his name this season, has not scored since the Villans’ 5-1 win against Norwich back in October. Meanwhile, Maupay has bagged three in his last three appearances, including a winner against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Take a look at what Aston Villa fans have been saying following Maupay’s latest goalscoring display below…

Why isn’t Neal Maupay smashing them in for Villa, and instead we’re stuck with a glorified lamppost? #AVFC

Only Villa could pass up the opportunity to sign Maupay coz we have Wesley. Absolute 100% villa, absolute 100% banter #avfc

Everytime Maupay scores and we have to watch Wesley trying to control the ball like it’s a brick… #avfc pic.twitter.com/5KyZHjftKe
