Aston Villa fans are already desperate to get into the playoffs and will be buzzing to get past their last game against Norwich and get into a two-legged clash with West Brom. They’ll want John McGinn for the playoffs, though, and as he received his 14th booking of the season yesterday they feared the worst as the Elland Road clash turned sour.

From the 70th minute onwards yesterday, what had previously been a dull tie took a turn for the exciting and controversial. Mateusz Klich scored a questionable opener, Anwar El Ghazi was sent off and then Marcelo Bielsa allowed Albert Admoah to walk through his side an equalise. Inbetween, though, there was a fair bit of handbags and John McGinn was obviously fired up throughout.
After the incident, when the game kicked back off at 1-1, McGinn went in extremely heavily on Adam Forshaw, turning the Leeds’ #4 inside out and earning himself his 14th yellow card of the season. If the Scottish midfielder is to play against Norwich and wins himself a 15th booking he will receive a three-match ban that will rule him out of their entire playoff campaign, so after that booking, the Villains were desperate to get McGinn off of the pitch and will hoping he’s rested for Norwich.

Lucky there, could have been a red, no attempt at the ball

The Whites will do anything to keep McGinn available for the playoffs and will be desperate to keep the Scot out of their squad for Norwich.
