Plenty of Aston Villa fans were critical of the performance given by defender Tyrone Mings as they dropped to 17th in the Premier League this afternoon.
They were leapfrogged by Bournemouth in the table after losing 2-1 to the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium, with the 26-year-old perhaps culpable to an extent for both of the home team’s goals. As noted by Birmingham Live, his “needless swipe” at Ryan Fraser led to the free kick from which Philip Billing opened the scoring on 37 minutes. Then, just before half-time, his mishit clearance fell to Ryan Fraser, whose shot was parried by Pepe Reina into the path of Nathan Ake to double Bournemouth’s lead, and he was also booked in his team’s defeat.
Birmingham Live reporter Ashley Preece thought that Mings “let the occasion against his former club get to him”, writing that he was “far from immaculate in possession too, sending clearances high into the sky”. The defender actually played the highest number of accurate passes this afternoon (49), although he failed to find a team-mate with 18 passes as he ended with an accuracy rate of 73% [via SofaScored].
These Aston Villa fans on Twitter were also unimpressed with Mings’ performance against the Cherries today:

They should never have let Chester go on loan. Mings is overated. His cost us goals from the first match of the season
