Aston Villa interested in signing another Man Utd star to replace Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford’s shock loan move to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 season can be considered a resounding success for both club and player.

After a tough few years at Manchester United, the England international appeared to rediscover his confidence and sharpness in front of goal, netting four times and providing six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.

Rashford’s contributions were instrumental in Villa securing Europa League qualification and reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they were knocked out by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite his strong performances, Rashford’s future remains uncertain.

Villa reportedly have the option to make the move permanent for a fee of £40 million. However, they do not hold exclusive rights to his signing, with Manchester United open to offers from any club willing to match that price. Complicating matters further, Villa are also said to be unwilling or unable to match Rashford’s current £315,000-a-week wages — and the player is not keen on a pay cut.

With Rashford’s future unclear, Villa may already have an alternative in mind — another United forward in search of a fresh start.

According to TEAMtalk, Villa are showing interest in Jadon Sancho, who has just returned to Manchester United following a season-long loan at Chelsea. Sancho ended the campaign with five goals and 10 assists in all competitions, including a goal in the Europa Conference League final, where Chelsea defeated Real Betis.

Chelsea had the option to sign Sancho permanently for £25 million but failed to reach an agreement on personal terms. Instead, they paid United £5 million to return him to Old Trafford.

With no future under new manager Rúben Amorim, United are expected to offload Sancho this summer — and Villa are reportedly considering a move should they decide against keeping Rashford. Emery is eager not to lose a left-sided attacking option in his squad.

Serie A giants Napoli and AC Milan are also believed to be monitoring Sancho’s situation, meaning Villa may need to move quickly if they want to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

However, as with Rashford, wages could again be a major hurdle. Sancho is said to be unwilling to accept less than his current £300,000-a-week salary — a figure that could put him out of Villa’s financial reach.
