Aston Villa endured a significant reshuffle in attack over the summer, with Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers among the key names to leave the club.
Although Nicolas Jackson has arrived to strengthen Unai Emery’s forward line, Villa could still need further firepower to maintain their ambitions across the Premier League and cup competitions.
With the January transfer window approaching, the Midlands side are reportedly exploring another attacking addition, with an in-form South American striker emerging as a potential target.
Aston Villa Interested in Kevin Viveros Transfer
According to Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte, Aston Villa have renewed their interest in Athletico Paranaense forward Kevin Viveros and are assessing the conditions of a possible transfer.
The 26-year-old Colombian has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Brazil, scoring 19 goals in 27 league appearances and establishing himself as one of the division’s most dangerous forwards. His performances have also earned him recognition at international level, increasing his profile among clubs in Europe.
Villa are reportedly considering a proposal worth around €20 million (£17.4m), although no official bid has been made. Athletico Paranaense are believed to value Viveros at more than €30m (£26m), leaving a considerable gap between the two clubs’ expectations.
Viveros could offer Emery another option in attack, bringing goalscoring form and a direct approach to the final third. With Watkins and Rogers having departed during the summer, adding further attacking quality could help Villa avoid becoming overly reliant on their existing forward options.
Jackson has already joined the club, while Tammy Abraham and young prospect Brian Madjo provide Emery with alternatives. However, Villa may feel another proven goalscorer would give them greater depth for the second half of the campaign.
The main obstacle is likely to be the transfer fee. Viveros remains under contract until 2028, giving Athletico a strong negotiating position, and the Brazilian club are reportedly seeking a significantly higher fee than Villa are currently considering.
The striker’s future is also being discussed with his representatives, with Athletico weighing up whether to improve his contract or consider a potential sale.
For now, Villa’s interest appears to be at the exploratory stage. Much will depend on whether Emery decides another striker is a priority and whether the club can reach an agreement over the valuation.
