Aston Villa have made plenty of changes to their attacking options, but Unai Emery could still be tempted to add further firepower if his side’s form continues to be inconsistent.
Villa have brought in several forwards during the year, with Nicolas Jackson and Tammy Abraham now providing competition up front, while youngster Brian Madjo is also pushing for opportunities.
However, Emery will want genuine competition for places if Villa are to challenge on multiple fronts.
That could put another proven goalscorer on the club’s radar, particularly one who has already made it clear that playing in England is a major ambition.
Aston Villa Handed Vangelis Pavlidis Boost
Aston Villa remain interested in Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis, and the Greek international’s desire to play in the Premier League could give Emery’s side an advantage in the race for his signature.
According to A Bola in Portugal, Pavlidis is still keen on making the move to England after Villa and Tottenham both showed interest during the summer. The 27-year-old would reportedly be open to a transfer, but only if Benfica give their approval.
That final point could prove crucial for Villa. Benfica blocked approaches for Pavlidis during the previous transfer window, with new manager Marco Silva viewing the striker as an important part of his plans.
Pavlidis has certainly done enough to justify that stance. After arriving from AZ Alkmaar in 2024, he enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, scoring 30 goals and registering six assists across 53 appearances. He has continued that form this season too, with Benfica’s official statistics showing 14 goals and three assists in his first 13 matches.
The striker’s contract runs until 2029 and contains a €100m release clause, although reports suggest Benfica could consider a significantly lower offer depending on the circumstances. A figure around €40m had previously been discussed amid Premier League interest.
For Villa, that could make Pavlidis an attractive option if Emery decides he needs another established goalscorer. Jackson, Abraham and Madjo give him options, but the Greek forward would bring a proven record of finding the net at the highest level.
Villa are not alone in their interest, with Tottenham also keeping tabs on Pavlidis, but his preference for the Premier League could give both English clubs an advantage over European suitors.
The biggest obstacle remains Benfica. If the Portuguese giants decide their striker is available, Villa could have a serious opportunity to bring Pavlidis to the Premier League.
