Aston Villa are still searching for their first win of the season after suffering another defeat on Saturday, with Nottingham Forest beating them 2-1.
It has been a difficult start for Unai Emery’s side, particularly after a summer that saw several important players leave Villa Park. Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa were among those to depart, leaving Villa with significant holes to fill.
With the team struggling for consistency, attention is already starting to turn towards January and the possibility of strengthening Emery’s squad.
According to CaughtOffside, Villa are now keeping tabs on a Serie A midfielder who enjoyed an impressive campaign last season.
Villa tracking Cher Ndour
Aston Villa are monitoring Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour as they consider options to strengthen their midfield, reports CaughtOffside.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a player attracting growing attention in Italy after making a strong impression during his first full campaign with Fiorentina.
Ndour came through Benfica’s academy before joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2023. However, he struggled to establish himself in France and eventually moved to Fiorentina for around £4.3 million in January 2025.
The move to Italy has proved to be a major step forward for the 6ft 3in midfielder. Last season, Ndour produced seven goals and three assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, giving him a total of 10 goal contributions.
Four of those goals came in the Conference League as Fiorentina progressed to the quarter-finals.
His progress has also earned him recognition at international level, with Ndour receiving his first two Italy caps in June.
Villa are not alone in keeping an eye on the midfielder, either. Liverpool, Juventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly monitoring his development as his reputation continues to grow.
Fiorentina are yet to receive a formal offer for Ndour, while the report claims the Italian club rejected approaches from unnamed sides during the summer.
Villa could therefore face competition if they decide to make their interest concrete, but with Emery needing to strengthen his midfield, Ndour is certainly a name worth keeping an eye on ahead of January.
Elsewhere, Villa are in talks to extend the contract of left back Ian Maatsen.
