Aston Villa have started to hit red-hot form under Dean Smith in the Championship.
The Villans have managed to record three successive league victories as they look to make a charge for a playoff spot.
However, Smith is still likely to head into the transfer market once it reopens in January as he will still have some areas he will want to improve and bolster his squad.
Defence is one of those key areas and according to reports, it appears as though he could look to bring a hugely experienced free agent to Villa Park.
The 37-year-old could follow in the footsteps of former Chelsea college John Terry, who is now assistant manager at the club.
The Verdict:

Despite his advancing years, Cole could be an inspired signing for Smith’s side, just as Terry was for them last season.
At 37-years-old, the left-back would bring a wealth of experience to Villa Park and would be able to help guide some of the younger players through the club.
Although it would be a short-term deal, wages would likely be an issue, as the former England international would command a large salary.
