Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been sharing their love for right-back Matty Cash on social media after it was revealed the 23-year-old was in line to receive an improved contact.

The reliable John Percy of The Telegraph shared the news on Wednesday evening, claiming the club will open talks with Cash over a new deal later this month.

Cash, who joined from Championship side Nottingham Forest last summer in a deal worth just over £14m, has made 23 Premier League appearances this season.

He’s established himself as first-choice under Dean Smith, with Ahmed Elmohamady watching on from the bench during large parts of the campaign.

His current contract, worth £65,000-a-week, still has over four years left to run, but it seems as if the club will reward him for his impressive first season in the top flight.

Villa fans react

It didn’t take long for Percy’s tweet late on Wednesday to reach plenty of Villa supporters, with many delighted at the proposed talks between Villa and Cash and one supporter calling the update from Percy 'lovely'.
