Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to the latest comments from manager Dean Smith on the current squad and if the club have any transfer plans for the remainder of the window.
@villareport tweeted out the latest comments from Smith on the transfer plans for the rest of this window (Sky Sports), as he said: “We’re not looking to (sign anybody else). We’ve got a healthy squad at the moment, we’ve got a healthy bench as well. I’m quite comfortable with were we’re at.”
It makes perfect sense for the manager to be happy with his current crop of players. They are currently tenth but if they win their two games in hand they could be level on points with fifth placed West Ham United as things stand (SofaScore).
The summer signings have come straight into the side and performed brilliantly, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez already keeping nine clean sheets and making 62 saves (Premier League). Meanwhile, Ollie Watkins already has eight Premier League goals to his name this campaign in his debut season in the top flight.
The board have shown their faith in Smith by signing Morgan Sanson, who has had experience in the Champions League.
However it seems like segments of the Villa fan base aren’t best pleased that the club are not strengthening more, as they believe that an injury to a player like Watkins could ruin their season.
Here is what Villa fans said following these comments:
“Wesley will be back in week to supply pressure to Watkins. A centreback worries me. Hauser is out and another injury and we could be in bother”
“Not so sure about the healthy bench up top tbh”
“Didn’t look that healthy when our option to chance a goal off the bench was Davis, I get he’s saying what he’s told to but we aren’t blessed with depth”
“Mistake in my opinion if Watkins gets injured we won’t be half as effective as we have been…think we might regret this opportunity.”
“Madness this we got no reliable backup striker”
“Damn. Watkins gets injured and we’re screwed.”
In other news, Gregg Evans has highlighted one transfer problem for Aston Villa.
