Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to the latest tweet from Gregg Evans in which he provides an update on Wesley, who is still trying to recover from a brutal knee injury he suffered last season.

The journalist tweeted: "He's back in training, the "long, painful hours" are behind him and #AVFC hope he can accelerate through these final stages of his recovery."

It has been sad to see the sheer length of time the Brazilian has been out. He has been injured for over a year now and this has meant the player has already missed no less than 50 games (Transfermarkt). After suffering such an injury, it will be really hard to perform to a good level in the Premier League when he returns.

He is only 24, but the forward wasn't having the best of starts to life at Villa before his injury, as he only managed six goals. When he does return, he won't have big expectations to succeed as the main man though, with summer signing Ollie Watkins performing brilliantly in his first ever season in the Premier League as he has already scored ten goals. Perhaps that could allow the Brazilian to thrive with less pressure on his shoulders.

Here is what fans said about Wesley:

"Really offered nothing going forward, slow, lacked energy couldn't hold the ball up and was not great in the air. Average range of passing I just don't see how he gets in the team"

"Injuries are part of the game, but we paid a decent amount for him so need a return on that investment. It won't be immediate but hopefully he can start to prove his worth. With a bit of luck he could have an impact on our last few matches."
