Aston Villa still admire Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to The Athletic.

And, as to be expected, that transfer claim has caught the eye of multiple Villa fans on social media, with Steven Gerrard after a holding midfielder this month following Marvelous Nakamaba's injury.

Phillips was a wanted man at Villa Park back in 2019 after Villa won promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs, with Leeds remaining in the second-tier. As we know, a move never materialised, although Phillips did reveal last year that he was ‘swaying towards’ a move to the Midlands.

Phillips has since penned new terms at Elland Road and helped Leeds win promotion to the Premier League. He's also become an established England international, winning the national side’s Player of the Year for 2020/21.

The Athletic’s Gregg Evans shared a Villa 2021 review, with his final topic on a dream January signing. He said that Villa still admire Phillips before adding that ‘there’s more chance of seeing Santa Claus’ than the 26-year-old leaving Elland Road.

Villa fans react
