Mike Dean has been appointed as the referee for Aston Villa’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa supporters have been giving their thoughts to the news on social media.

Dean will be assisted by Darren Cann and Eddie Smart, with Michael Salisbury named as fourth official and Andy Madley in charge of VAR. [Premier League]

The 53-year-old has already taken charge of a Villa fixture this season in the opening weekend defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road, with Ben Foster revealing Dean joked with Tom Cleverley after allowing play to continue in the build-up to a Hornets goal that afternoon.

He is famously known for that ‘celebration’ following a Tottenham goal against Villa back in 2015 and also sent off Douglas Luiz last season in Villa’s 1-0 win against Wolves.
