Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to Mike Dean’s appointment for Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham.

The 52-year-old will take charge of the Premier League clash at Villa Park, the top flight have announced, and the news hasn’t gone down well with a section of Villa supporters on social media.

Darren Cann and Mark Scholes will assist Dean on the touchline, with Robert Jones as the fourth official and Simon Hooper on video assistant referee (VAR) duty.

Dean a good Villa omen?

Dean has only been in the middle for one Villa game this season - the West Midlands derby against Wolves back in December.

Villa ran out 1-0 winners following a late Anwar El Ghazi at Molineux, with nine yellow cards and two red cards handed out that afternoon.

Dean has awarded six penalties in his 18 games this season and has brandished five red cards.

@AVFC_News shared the confirmation on Twitter on Tuesday. This is what these Villa supporters had to say, with some bringing up his famous Spurs ‘celebration’ against Villa six years ago.
