Axel Tuanzebe endured a moment to forget in the first half of Aston Villa’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday evening, and plenty of AVFC fans took to social media in uproar.
Villa were 12th at the start of play, having picked up four points from their first three matches of the new season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were looking to return to winning ways after drawing with Liverpool prior to the international break.
Recapping Tuanzebe’s first half
Tuanzebe earned a second consecutive start, with manager Dean Smith reverting to a back three/five at Stamford Bridge.
The Manchester United loanee lined up at the heart of the trio, with Ezri Konsa to his right and Tyrone Mings to his left.
Chelsea took the lead on 15 minutes when Romelu Lukaku collected Mateo Kovacic’s incisive pass and easily cut inside Tuanzebe before firing the ball past Jed Steer.
The defender’s SofaScore match rating of 6.5 for the first period was the third lowest among Villa’s outfielders, with only Matt Targett and Tyrone Mings ranking lower.
Villa fans lament apparent Tuanzebe error
“Zebe got murdered”
“Tuanzebe so lazy”
“Started really well but dreadful from Tuanzebe”
“Can see why Man U didn’t want Zebe”
“Tuanzebe shouldn’t have dived in”

In other news, Villa could sanction this transfer in January.
