Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has been discussing the future of Keinan Davis. He believes that the forward should head out on loan in the January transfer window.
What Agbonlahor had to say about Davis
Speaking to Football Insider about Davis, Agbonlahor said: “It’s a shame with Keinan, he’s had his injuries.
He’s back from injury now but I’m sure Dean Smith will be looking at in January when Wesley comes back and thinking to himself now Keinan won’t be involved as much. Sometimes you need to go out on loan and play some games. He’s not played a lot of football in his career.
He needs to go out and get some game time, score some goals in the Championship and I’m sure he’ll be back into Villa’s squad next season. But you can’t see Watkins not starting games and when Westley’s back I’m sure he’ll be the first choice to come off the bench. I think that’s definitely something Keinan needs to do. I’m sure if you ask Keinan that’s something he’ll want to do.”
Would this be a good idea for Villa?
Davis has only managed five goals in 72 appearances for the club so it was no surprise to see Smith move for Ollie Watkins. He has been praised by teammate Jack Grealish, who spoke about a past performance of the player as he said: “He was brilliant. I bet you there’s fans of ours who don’t know too much about him and fans who probably didn’t expect him to play.”
A loan move would also benefit Davis as he is only 22. He shouldn’t see the loan as him being deemed as surplus to requirements. He should see it more as an opportunity to play consistent football at a crucial age in his career.
The forward could also use the loan to show the potential that has seen Villa stick with him for so long and perhaps return in the summer and fight for more first-team opportunities.
