Many Aston Villa fans are over the moon after seeing a tweet from the club announcing that emerging academy prospect Louie Barry has won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for January.
The 19 year-old has had a great season for the academy so far as he has scored nine goals in ten matches for the U23’s in the division (Transfermarkt). He was rewarded for his performances at youth level by being given his professional debut in the FA Cup against Liverpool, and marked the occasion by scoring a well-taken goal – clearly a player to watch for the future.
January was a great month for Barry as he scored a hat-trick in Premier League 2 against the Norwich U23’s and it is easy to see why he was awarded the Player of the Month award. One fan called this update ‘brilliant’.
This season has shown the club and supporters that they have a potential star in their ranks, and with the rise of former academy star Jack Grealish, it is not surprising to see fans get so excited over the potential Barry has.
Here is how Villa fans reacted to the news:
“What he deserves”
“Promotion to first team is essential for the start of next season. He is good enough and will only get better with experience.”
“He is our starboy!”
“What an achievement and what a talent, cannot wait to see him full time in the first team one day”
In other news, Gregg Evans has highlighted one transfer problem for Aston Villa.
