Aston Villa have spoken to agent Jorge Mendes regarding the potential signing of Joao Felix, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Villa linked with Felix

The Atletico Madrid forward has been strongly linked with a move away from the La Liga giants in recent times, having struggled to find his best form at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Villa are one of the clubs to have emerged as possible suitors for the Portuguese gem as Unai Emery looks to make significant inroads in the transfer market.

It may not be easy for them to get the 23-year-old, but an intriguing update has now emerged.

The Latest: Conversations with Felix's agent

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said that Villa have been in touch with Mendes about a move to the Midlands for Felix and that the club share a positive relationship with the agent.

The journalist stated:

"For sure, Aston Villa are trying for Joao Felix. They had a conversation with his agent Jorge Mendes and the relationship is very good, but the reality is that the player is expecting something different. So I think it’s not going to be an easy one."

The Verdict: Positive signs

This report that Villa have spoken to Mendes is a positive sign as they look to pull off what would be one of their most ambitious signings in years.

Felix will be wanted by some of Europe's top clubs, considering his reputation as one of the best young attacking players around, having won the European Golden Boy award in 2019 and cost Atletico €126m (£113m) that year.

The 23-year-old is someone who could potentially improve everyone around him at Villa - he has 33 goals for Atletico and four for Portugal - coming as a talismanic signing, and landing him would be a major statement of intent by the club.
