Aston Villa could look to sign Nicolas Jackson as a cheaper option than teammate Arnaut Danjuma in January, journalist Pete O'Rourke has claimed.

The Lowdown: Jackson linked with Villa move

Unai Emery has made an excellent start to life at Villa Park, with his side picking up a superb 2-0 victory away to Tottenham on New Year's Day.

That's three wins out of four in the league for the Spaniard, but while results are clearly impressive, there is no doubt that he will want some of his own signings in the January transfer window.

Villarreal stars Jackson and Danjuma have emerged as strong candidates to come in and now a new update further suggests a choice of the two will likely depend on finances.

The Latest: January switch could happen

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O'Rourke claimed that Jackson could be the top target because he's 'a bit cheaper' and has a known release clause of £30m:

"Jackson is probably a bit cheaper and more attainable than Danjuma because Jackson has a release clause in his contract.

"I’m sure that Villa will be pursuing this one to see if they can get a deal done in January."

The Verdict: Relationship with Emery key

Admittedly, Jackson remains relatively unproven at the top level, having only made 32 appearances for Villarreal, but he is a big talent with a bright future.

Villa could do with fresh blood in their attack, with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings both 30 and flattering to deceive, and the 21-year-old could solve that issue.

Not only that but the fact that Jackson and Emery have already worked together at Villarreal also bodes well, suggesting the manager could get the best out of him quickly in England.
