Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer has been named as the Player of the Round in the EFL Trophy after the group stages came to an end.

Villa's under-21 side finished top of Group K after winning all three of their matches, defeating the first teams of MK Dons, Burton Albion and Wycombe Wanderers.

Archer was in electric form during the group stage, with the highlight being a hat-trick against Burton on Matchday Two. He also found the net against Wycombe and bagged a brace at MK Dons, taking him to a tournament-leading six goals in his three outings.

The 'sensational' 19-year-old - as hailed by Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece - has also delivered at senior level this season. He took home the match ball following a hat-trick Villa's 6-0 Carabao Cup rout of Barrow and was also on target in the next round at Stamford Bridge.

Dean Smith handed the teenager three Premier League run-outs totalling 24 minutes before he was sacked earlier this month, but there was no place for him in for Steven Gerrard's first matchday squad last weekend.

Aston Villa's official Twitter channel announced Archer's award, and here's how some fans responded.

"I have to day, I'd have him on the bench over Davis. Nothing against Keinan, but Archer is predatory and is something different to Ings and Ollie"
