Aston Villa: Pundit Alan Hutton expresses his admiration for Callum O’Hare

Pundit's choice

Former Aston Villa man Alan Hutton has been expressing his admiration for talent Callum O’Hare, when speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Hutton, whose eight-year affiliation with Villa ended in the summer as his contract came to an end, brought O’Hare up when discussing youngsters who could go on to have big futures either in the Midlands or elsewhere.

“I like Callum O’Hare. He was introduced into the squad a few seasons ago. We’ve seen glimpses, he’s a different player, probably more like your (conventional) number 10 – sees a pass other people don’t see and I think that was the thing that stood out for me. For someone so young to have ability like that, it was really outstanding.”

Hutton feels that “he’s not had as much game time as he would probably have liked but I think that’s the case of you need to go out and play.”

That’s exactly what he has done. With just nine Villa appearances under the 21-year-old’s belt, having finished the second half of last season with Carlisle United in League Two where he scored three and assisted three in 16 games, he moved up a tier this season and is spending the campaign at Coventry City.

On loan to the Sky Blues, Hutton added: “I think he is going to get the game time he needs there. Hopefully he’s a player that will develop and he’ll get better and come back as a better player.”

O’Hare seems to have worked his way into the City side having produced two important goals in his first three games off the bench. The former England youth international has started the last two games and after City’s draw on Saturday, he was named man of the match so he must be doing something right over there.

If he can continue to perform for Coventry and build on that, then Hutton could be watching him turning out in claret and blue in the coming years.
