The Sun’s Alan Nixon has been discussing the possibility of Aston Villa signing Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson on Twitter.
This comes after Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed that interest from English clubs exists in the 26-year-old.
What has Nixon said about Aston Villa potentially signing Sanson?
Villa are one of several English clubs to have been linked with a move for the Frenchman but when one particular Villa fan recently took to Twitter to ask Nixon if he thinks this transfer will happen, the journalist wasn’t very positive, as he declared: ‘There’s an auction. Depends what Marseille take. Not sure how he gets in that Villa side.”
However, a major development in this potential deal later emerged, as le10sport’s Alexis Bernard claimed that Sanson’s transfer to Villa is ‘very close’ with the Ligue 1 side setting an asking price of between €15-20m (£13.37-17.82m) for Sanson’s signature.
After this update on Sanson’s price tag emerged, Nixon changed his tune, to an extent, when he dropped an encouraging five-word claim on this deal, saying that if Marseille are only asking for that much: ‘That would make a difference.’
Transfer Tavern take
So, it seems like Nixon felt that Villa might have been priced out of the midfielder previously, with the journalist indicating that he wasn’t convinced Sanson would be worth the transfer fee that the Birmingham club would have to pay.
Following Bernard’s update, however, it seems like the journalist’s view is that Dean Smith’s side can make this move happen.
Is this a bargain for Villa?
YES
NO
It will be interesting to see how this transfer story develops from here and whether or not Villa can sign Sanson, with some of their Premier League rivals also said to have been lining up a move for the Frenchman.
In other news, it’s been claimed that Aston Villa may pass up the opportunity to sign Ross Barkley permanently for a ‘younger and fresher’ option.
