The January transfer window has been a quiet one for Aston Villa so far. However, reports suggest that this might change as the club are keeping tabs on David Brooks.
The latest on David Brooks
According to the Express and Star, Villa are keeping tabs on Brooks as they continue to weigh up whether to do any January transfer business. Any business that they look to do will be done toward the end of the month, with the club simply weighing their options for now.
Would this be a good signing?
The Welshman currently plays in the Championship with AFC Bournemouth. He has had a decent campaign so far, scoring three goals and picking up five assists in 17 games (WhoScored). He has shown consistent attacking intent, averaging 1.6 shots and 1.4 key passes a game.
Brooks, who is currently valued at £16.20m, has graced the Premier League with the Cherries, scoring seven goals and picking up five assists in his first season in the top flight (Transfermarkt). However, a bad injury he suffered meant he only played nine times last season, scoring one goal.
He definitely showed glimpses that he can succeed in the Premier League, and he thoroughly impressed his old manager Eddie Howe in the early stages of his career at Bournemouth. The winger scored a brace in a 2-0 victory against Brighton. This performance saw Howe say: “It has typified his introduction to the club.He has played ever so well for us, he has got a creative flair, non-stop energy and he took his goals really well today.
“He is a player that can do a little bit of everything, he is very good offensively, is creative, turns well with the ball and is very intelligent.”
Brooks has shown that he is indeed a ‘creative’ player with nearly an assist every three matches, and he would add some good depth for Villa as they look for a top half finish in the division this season.
