Aston Villa were one of many sides reportedly interested in Florian Thauvin during the summer transfer window. The player ultimately stayed at Marseille but he has now provided a further update about his future.
Thauvin discusses his future
Speaking to BeIN Sports, via the Birmingham Mail, Thauvin said: “Honestly, for the moment, I do not know (what my future holds). It is too early to say. Nothing has been decided or sorted. We have barely begun talks with the club. So for the moment, it is way too early to say.”
Should Villa look to pursue the target
The 27-year-old World Cup winner has had a good start to the season for the Ligue 1 side. He has scored four goals and picked up five assists (WhoScored). The player has been a huge attacking threat as he has managed 1.6 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.2 successful dribbles per game.
He has an abundance of experience on the international stage and in the Champions League. Thauvin has also got Premier League experience after playing for Newcastle.
However, Villa should maybe see his time at the Magpies as a reason not to sign him. He was a flop in the North East as he only played 16 times for the club, picking up three assists (Transfermarkt). Six months after signing in 2015, he was loaned out and was sent out on multiple occasions until he was sold in 2017.
Since then, he has gone on to score 47 goals in all competitions, but it remains to be seen if that’s been enough to impress Villa.
