West Ham have added Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause to their list of summer transfer targets, according to Football Insider.
The Lowdown: Hause at Villa
The centre-back, who was described as ‘different class’ by Noel Whelan, initially made the move to Villa Park on loan in January 2019 from Wolves before making the deal permanent that summer.
Axel Tuanzebe has been brought in on loan this summer by Dean Smith to rival Hause, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, and it appears as if the former Wolves defender could be made available to leave, according to Football Insider.
Should Villa sell Hause?
Yes, not needed!
No, keep hold of him!
The Latest: Source shares update
A West Ham source informed Football Insider that Hause has been added to the club’s list of targets. He is now Villa’s fourth-choice centre-back and may well be on the move before the transfer window closes later this month.
The Hammers are prepared to pay a significant fee for a defender this summer but it is unclear whether or not Villa will be tempted to sell Hause.
The Verdict: Keep
Smith only has four senior centre-backs at his disposal, so it would make sense to keep hold of Hause this summer.
Should they sell the 26-year-old to West Ham, they would also be strengthening a direct rival. Overall, if Villa have no intention of bringing in another centre-back, they should look to keep hold of Hause for the 2021/22 campaign.
