Aston Villa youngster Keinan Davis needs to join another club on loan in the January transfer window, according to journalist Ashley Preece.
The Lowdown: Davis out of favour at Villa
The 23-year-old has failed to kick on in his career in recent times, finding himself out of favour under both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.
With the January transfer window now approaching, it could be an ideal time for the striker to enjoy a new challenge.
Is Tyrone Mings the best defender at Aston Villa?
The Latest: Journalist backs loan move
Preece thinks that should be the case, as he told Give Me Sport that Davis desperately needs to earn more playing time before reassessing things next summer.
The journalist said: “I think Davis needs to rebuild his career on loan in January. He needs to have a good end to the season, go back to Villa in the summer and see where he’s at.”
The Verdict: Last full season at Villa Park?
We’re with Preece on this one. A temporary exit in January makes perfect sense for Davis, with the striker currently stagnating at Villa Park and barely getting a look-in. In truth, that is unlikely to change in the coming months, with Danny Ings back fit again and Ollie Watkins also an undisputed key player.
At 23, this is a crucial point in Davis’ career and he has to be playing regularly. A loan move could be beneficial – Smith’s Norwich City has been mooted as a possible destination – while leaving for good in the summer also seems a strong possibility.
His current Villa deal expires in 2024, so the club could also receive a healthy fee for him once the 2021/22 campaign reaches its conclusion.
