‘Awful player’, ‘Sell him’ - Man Utd fans fume at 28-year-old after shocker against Newcastle

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are not very happy at the moment. It’s been a solid season, for the most part, but a disappointing loss came at the weekend against lowly Newcastle United.

The Magpies, conversely, have had a tough month or so, but they really turned up against the Red Devils.

In truth, Jose Mourinho’s men deserved to lose the game, and nobody in red really covered themselves in glory. From Paul Pogba to Romelu Lukaku, it’s clear that improvement is needed.

However, following the game, one player has earned more criticism than most. Chris Smalling has been poor for much of the campaign, and against Newcastle, he had what was arguably his worst game of the season so far.

Booked for a disappointing dive, the Englishman looked really poor – and the Man Utd fans over on Twitter have made sure to not let him forget it. Fans have taken to Twitter over the last day or so to discuss the fixture, and the performance of Smalling is a constant theme.

With one fan describing him as an ‘awful’ player, and another demanding that Mourinho sells him, it’s clear that he’s not too popular at Old Trafford at the moment.
