Chelsea fans had likely been hoping for a quick start to the summer window, but it has been anything but thus far. In fact, very little of note has occurred, and that needs to change – fast.
With the World Cup already underway, Chelsea are now facing an uphill battle to try and bring in a few new faces over the coming weeks, but in order to prevent the month of June from going down as a disaster, the Blues need to land at least one player before July begins.
It won’t be easy, of course, but one man that might be a good choice is Gonzalo Higuain of Napoli.
Last season, Chelsea lacked firepower, and so signing a new forward must be on the agenda. Higuain is arguably one of the best in Europe right now.
The Argentine has been scoring for fun for Europe for years, and he has impressed for a number of clubs, and in a number of leagues. In Italy, he’s looked good for the likes of Napoli and Juventus, whilst, let’s not forget, he was also one of Real Madrid’s main forwards at one point.
He’s been lethal over the years, having bagged 16 league goals last season and 24 the year before. As such, Chelsea wouldn’t have to worry about him not scoring goals. He’s proven that he can do that wherever he goes.
Granted, he’s not a youngster, and at 30-years-old, his long-term prospects don’t look great – but Chelsea neede to bring in players that can turn their fortunes around immediately. They’d struggle to find someone that can do that more efficiently than Higuain.
