Metro have Chelsea fans looking up with some wistfulness here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they talk about Frank Lampard and the glory days for the Blues – and it seems that Ronaldinho was as much of a fan of the midfielder as we are.
The former Barcelona star was talking about how much he wanted to sign Lampard and as one of our punters notes, it was not too long ago that the former Chelsea star was stood on the Ballon d’Or stage with Barca duo Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o as the three best players in world football.
Ronaldinho claimed: ‘I told Frank Rijkaard that we (Barcelona) should sign him, but he didn’t want to leave Chelsea.’
He also included John Terry and Claude Makelele in his dream team and given the amount of success those Blues players had against his side, we can see why!
We think that Lampard would have been brilliant for Barcelona – but is now a Chelsea legend (pre Manchester City of course) and we cannot deny that seeing him in the Premier League was something that we relished and his personal battle with Steven Gerrard to claim the title of best midfielder in England was a classic.
