Arsenal may still have the biggest game of their season ahead of them, but preparations for the summer transfer window are already well underway behind the scenes.
The Gunners secured the Premier League title and now turn their attention to tomorrow’s Champions League final against PSG, with Mikel Arteta’s side chasing a historic double.
At the same time, Arsenal are also expected to strengthen key areas of the squad this summer in order to stay ahead domestically and in Europe.
Keeping hold of important players will be just as crucial, however, and it appears Barcelona are already monitoring one of Arsenal’s standout stars.
Barcelona Eyeing Hincapie Move
According to the Mail Online, Barcelona are considering a move for Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie after an impressive first campaign in North London.
The Ecuador international, previously described as a “complete defender” by teammate Martin Odegaard, joined Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and has quickly become an important figure in Arteta’s squad.
Capable of playing both centrally and at left-back, Hincapie has featured 38 times across all competitions this season, helping Arsenal challenge on multiple fronts.
Barcelona are said to admire the 24-year-old’s versatility, composure in possession and athleticism, with sporting director Deco keen to add another left-sided centre-back option ahead of next season.
Despite that interest, a deal would be far from straightforward.
Arsenal are understood to be delighted with Hincapie’s impact since arriving from Germany and view him as an important long-term option within the squad. The defender himself is also believed to be settled at the Emirates after adapting quickly to Premier League football.
Still, Barcelona are reportedly prepared to test Arsenal’s resolve in the coming weeks as they continue shaping their summer plans.
For Arsenal, losing Hincapie so soon after his arrival would represent a major blow, especially given his ability to provide depth across the back line during such a demanding campaign.
