Arsenal fell short of the Premier League title this season, finishing in second place, 10 points adrift of Champions, Leicester City, and our resident Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are not happy with the campaign that has just gone.
However, Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech won the Golden Glove with 16 clean sheets, and the defence cannot be the only culprit for Arsenal’s failure to win the title.
Arsene Wenger has already been busy in the transfer market, seemingly securing a deal for Granit Xhaka, but Arsenal fans will definitely hope that the Frenchman spends more than the apparent £30 million sum that he has already paid.
Arsenal conceded 36 goals this season, less than a goal per game, but who should be in Wenger’s starting line-up next season?

Petr Cech
The Czech Republic goalkeeper signed for Arsenal in a surprise deal from Chelsea last summer.
The tall keeper has won every club competition possible with an English top flight side and has the record of Premier League clean sheets.
Cech even won the Golden glove in his first season at the Emirates with 16 clean sheets.
John Terry famously said that Cech would save Arsenal 15 points, The Gunners would have ended the season in 9th place taking that statement into account.
There are few goalkeepers around better than the 34-year-old.
Hector Bellerin
Young, speedy Spanish right back Hector Bellerin broke into the Arsenal XI after Mathieu Debuchy’s misfortune, with injuries during the 14-15 season.
The Frenchman’s bad luck proved to be beneficial for Arsenal as Bellerin has taken the Premier League by storm.
The 21-year-old was named in the Premier League team of the season, and the Spaniard has provided some vital assists as well as saving the Gunners on numerous occasions.
Mehdi Benatia
The Bayern Munich centre back would be a perfect replacement for Per Mertesacker, and Arsenal have reportedly been in contact with the Bavarian club over a possible switch, according to French reports via the Daily Star.
The only negative of the move would be Benatia’s tendency for injuries, that is the last thing that Arsene Wenger needs in his side but providing Benatia stayed fit, he would be an instrumental part of the Arsenal defence as he is strong, composed and calm on the ball.
Laurent Koscielny
Few defenders have been as consistent as the Frenchman in the Premier League over recent years.
The 30- year-old centre back has been labelled a “boss” by the Arsenal fans here in the Tavern, as he rarely fails to do his job, Cech may not have reached his landmark without Koscielny protecting the goal in front of him.
Koscielny is also more than capable of scoring an important goal or two, the French international scored 4 times for Arsenal this season.
Nacho Monreal
Monreal, like Bellerin was an integral part of the Arsenal side this season, providing plenty of goal scoring opportunities and certainly being one of the more reliable senior members of the squad.
The Spaniard went off the boil at the tail end of the season but his performances have kept Gibbs out of the side for some time now, and his performances must be rewarded.
It would certainly be unjust for Wenger to replace his full backs who have been a key part in Arsenal’s first top two finish in over a decade.
