The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a dominant win against Leicester City this weekend…
The Red Devils have made a fantastic start to the season so far, picking up back-to-back 4-0 wins under Mourinho, but there is a lot of hard work still to be done.
Still, on paper, they should comfortably beat Leicester City this weekend, and this is a prediction that BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson agrees with. However, while the fans in the Transfer Tavern are convinced that Man Utd will win the title this season, Lawro isn’t so sure.
As part of his weekly predictions series, the pundit had the following to say about Man Utd’s title credentials: “I think the red half of Manchester have decided they have already won the league but all it is so far is a very good start. They do look major contenders though”.
He added: “They have a big squad and have as many quality players as anybody, including Manchester City…They know they have a good side and that they will be close in all competitions”.
The former Liverpool players clearly recognise Man Utd’s talent, but he is, wisely, putting talk of a title challenge on the back burner for now. He’s right – Man Utd have played just 2 games of a 38 game season, and so they cannot jump the gun.
That said, a win this weekend looks likely, and a title challenge will certainly be forthcoming.
Landlord’s Verdict
Man Utd have looked very good so far this season, and if they continue that fine form, a win against Leicester shouldn’t be a problem.
That said, the game against Swansea saw moments of frailty, and so Mourinho’s side is far from perfect. They can’t afford to take victory for granted, and they certainly can’t afford to take a prospective title challenge for granted either.
It’s going to be a long season, and Man Utd have made a good start.
