Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern were reasonably buoyed by their side’s display on Wednesday night despite seeing the Toffees exit the Carabao Cup at the hands of Premier League champions Chelsea.
David Unsworth took charge of the team for the first time as caretaker since the departure of Ronald Koeman on Monday, and he appeared to install confidence in the players in what was a much-improved performance from the Merseysiders at Stamford Bridge. Nonetheless, goals from Antonio Rudiger and Willian was enough to secure a quarter-final spot for Antonio Conte’s men, and although Dominic Calvert-Lewin got one back for the visitors late on, they left themselves too much to do to remain in the competition.
And although they weren’t particularly great in the first half, several of our resident Evertonians were pleased with their side’s second half response, and as such many are looking forward to their team’s crucial Premier League clash at fellow managerless outfit Leicester City on Sunday.
However, for all the positives that arose from Wednesday’s display, one player in particular had another tricky evening, namely Wales captain Ashley Williams.
The 33-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in the summer of 2016 and did reasonably well last term, but he has so far struggled to replicate any sort of form this season, and Wednesday saw the centre-back put in another disappointing showing.
And, unsurprisingly, several Toffees supporters took to Twitter to hammer the Welshman for his efforts in West London…
