Newcastle fans here in the Tavern wait in anticipation for Benitez’s to name his first line up post international break.
The Magpies are one of the form teams so far this season as they make an appearance in the top half of the Premier League table.
Benitez’s side enjoyed a solid draw last time out against title challengers Liverpool as they produced a performance that many were impressed by, as they kept the dangerous attacking side at bay.
Now with all of the first-team squad returning from their respective countries, its time for the Tyneside club to really knuckle down as they look to produce the fine formed they entered the break with.
However, fans here in the Tavern are starting to feel as if a few changes should be made. Although the club have enjoyed a fine start, there is a certain air of uncertainty towards the consistency of players within the starting 11.
So without further a due, here are the 2 players that Benitez should look to drop for the upcoming game away at St Mary’s…
Joselu
Joselu, a player who has never really settled down with any club after playing for 6 teams in the last 6 seasons. The Spanish striker had a stint in the Premier League with Stoke City where he would only provide his services for just the two seasons.
After purchasing the forward from Stoke he’s managed just the 2 goals in 6 games but is a man who fellow Spanish partner Benitez has grown very fond of.
However, fans in our bar are becoming increasingly impatient with the striker as they look towards the introduction of fringe player Aleksandar Mitrovic.
So, with Newcastle struggling to find a consistent marksman who can produce results it looks as if this man should be sidelined as the other forwards are poised to impress.
Mikel Merino
The Spanish U21 man who joined on loan from Dortmund for the season provides his services in the centre of midfield as an anchorman.
He’s started all 7 games for the Tyneside club as he seems to be one of the players that Benitez turns to. With what is a squad packed with central midfielders its been a big talking point as to whether the 21-year-old is the right man to be tasked with such duties.
Championship specialist Mohamed Diame has been sidelined for pretty much the duration of the season as he becomes out of favour under the Spanish manager. Senegaleselise international provides a reliable, yet high quality form of game as he patrols the midfield while displaying incredible defensive abilities, before breaking forward in support of the forward.
So Newcastle fans, are these two changes that Benitez should make heading into the game away at Southampton?
