Turkish side Besiktas have launched a €22m bid for Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard. According to Turkish publication Sozcu, Arsenal have yet to respond to the offer which was sent over on early Thursday morning.
The Turkish Super Lig window remains open until Friday, 12 September, which could mean quite a bit of business takes place before then. Trossard’s future has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with many reports suggesting the player is searching for more consistent playing time.
He has experienced both extended runs in the side as well as stretches on the bench during his four seasons at Arsenal. He has bagged 27 goals and 13 assists over the past two seasons however, many of which coming as an impact sub in must win situations for Arsenal.
As such he was rewarded with a fresh contract this summer, which still has the same 2027 expiry but with improved terms. He was previously linked with a move to Besiktas’ Turkish Super Lig rivals Fenerbahce as well as Crystal Palace.
Trossard linked with Arsenal exit
Trossard has seen his place in the pecking order fall following Arsenal’s heavy recruitment this summer. Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, and Noni Madueke specifically occupy similar roles to Trossard and could push Trossard out of the first team picture.
He has featured just once in Arsenal’s first three Premier League matches this season, coming on as a second half substitute in their 5-0 home win against Leeds in Matchweek 2.
Arsenal will have a decision to make as they weigh up cashing on a player who turns 31 this year or keeping him for squad depth. The Gunners have been unlucky with injuries the past few seasons and are already missing Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz at this early stage in the season.
Arsenal raised eyebrows this summer when it was revealed they had only recouped £10m from transfer sales despite spending £267m. The Gunners have notably failed to secure high transfer values for many of their departures with many fans calling for more wholesale clear outs.
Arsenal were able to trim their squad by releasing Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko but they were all loan departures. Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney all left the club following the end of their contracts.
The only money generated this summer was from Marquinhos’s £2.5m move to Cruzeiro and Nuno Tavares’ £7.5m exit to Lazio. An argument could be made that Arsenal will need to balance their books better in the future.
