Leeds United supporters were far from happy in the Transfer Tavern on Tuesday night after seeing their side succumb to a fifth defeat in their last six Championship matches following a 2-1 loss to Derby County at Elland Road.
Thomas Christiansen’s men have endured a tricky spell in recent weeks but still remained in the top six prior to kick-off, and they looked on course to snap out of their testing run when Pierre Michel Lasogga gave them a seventh minute lead. However, that was as good as it got for the home faithful as two Sam Winnall goals, the latter from the penalty spot, secured the three points for Gary Rowett’s side, who in turn leapfrogged the Yorkshire giants into fifth place in the Championship table.
Thus, it was another disappointing and frustrating evening for several of our resident Leeds fans, who are already turning their attentions to Saturday’s trip to Brentford in a bid to finally end this recent run of poor form.
Nonetheless, there was one man who stood about above the rest on Tuesday night in the white of Leeds, namely summer signing Samuel Saiz.
The 26-year-old made the move from Huesca during the close season and has made quite an impact at Elland Road with four goals and two assists in 14 Championship appearances, as well as four goals in just two Carabao Cup games.
And the Spanish midfielder was again Leeds’ most impressive player at Elland Road last night, and as such several Whites supporters took to Twitter to heap praise on the 26-year-old…
We need…. Bartley clone, Taylor Clone and the Alioski who started the season back. Saiz only one pulling weight at minute #Lufc

Almost as if Saiz is on a different wave length, class above the rest of the squad in my opinion #lufc

we don’t deserve Saiz he’s the best thing since sliced bread and the rest of them apart from Vieira tonight were atrocious #lufc

Saiz too good for this team, falling apart again …. we go again Saturday for Brentford (A) #lufc

Brittle, spineless, chinless, and often clueless. That said, Saiz the best player we’ve had for a decade #lufc

Feel for Saiz, he’s the only one that can take on a team on twice and put it into Lasogga’s feet, only for him to put it on the M621 #lufc

I’m embarrassed for Saiz, he’s too good for this team #lufc
