Exiled Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback received birthday wishes from the club’s Twitter account and the Magpies’ fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting.
The 28-year-old completed a controversial switch from North-East rivals Sunderland to Tyneside in 2014, realising his ambition to play for the team he supported growing up. And he was an integral member of the squad in his first two years in black and white- the latter of which saw his side relegated- and made twenty-one Championship appearances last campaign as Rafa Benitez’s men lifted the title.
However, he wasn’t even included in Newcastle’s 25-man squad ahead of the new Premier League season in August and although he was eventually selected when the transfer window close, his future at the club remains very uncertain with no first-team action forthcoming. He could have secured a loan move to Wolves but opted to stay and fight for his place, which is commendable and perhaps shows why some Magpies’ fans in our bar were still willing to wish him a happy birthday.
With that in mind, here’s how they reacted to the club’s message on Twitter…
Deserves another chance – better than Merino
