The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern love the fact that they’ve signed Porto’s young Portuguese right-back, Diogo Dalot. Jose Mourinho has been speaking about the youngster, claiming that in his age group he is the best full-back in Europe, which is a huge statement from one of the most successful managers in Premier League history.

Manchester United have a rich history of developing young payers and nurturing them into world-class stars. Players that have both come through the club’s academy and been signed at a young age have benefited from the superb opportunity that the Red Devils provide, and Dalot will be hoping to emulate his countryman, Cristiano Ronaldo who became a Ballon D’Or winning star in time in Manchester.
Dalot will be joining the club playing second fiddle to the club’s experienced winger turned full-back, Antonio Valencia. The Ecuadorian who has previously worn the number seven shirt at Old Trafford will be key to Dalot’s development as he can show the youngster the ropes and help him cope with the pressure that comes with being a defender at a club the size of Manchester United.

Dalot won’t play week in week out for the Red Devils, but the fans are delighted he’s signed and Mourinho seems prepared to put his faith in the youngster. This looks like a signing with one eye on the future.
