Before making their mark as far as incomings go in the transfer window, Everton are hoping to move on a group of players now deemed surplus to requirements.
The likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie could all be about to join £9m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Wayne Rooney out of the exit door, according to the Daily Star.
Rooney’s expected departure to the MLS has now been confirmed with DC United having signed Manchester United and England’s all-time top scorer on a two-year deal.
While Everton haven’t received a transfer fee for Rooney, as reported by BBC Sport, the Toffees have made the right decision letting the 32-year-old leave the club during this window.
Since returning to his boyhood club, Rooney’s role in the team has been unclear and with his high wages, there was no value in keeping him around.
That being said, the former Manchester United striker is still a very good footballer – even in the midst of the decline he’s going through – and it’s a surprise to see him taking off to the MLS while still in his early thirties.
Take a look at how Everton fans reacted to Rooney’s exit below…

This is a big statement getting rid of a player like Rooney and his wage bill is good

Glad Rooney is going. Massive drain on finances. Legs have clearly gone. Left to early came back too late. Had a reasonable first half of the season but second half was terrible. Lost possession and looked like he was running in quick drying cement.
