Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have apologised to Arsene Wenger after it emerged the Gunners boss HAD tried to sign a striker on transfer Deadline Day.
Our punters were furious with the lack of senior outfield additions over the summer, believing that their chances of success were left in tatters. A decent start to the Premier League season has changed that view though- and now an interesting transfer story has emerged.
Dynamo Moscow boss Andrey Kolebev confirmed that Arsenal did make a late-move for striker Aleksandr Kokorin but it was rejected, as a loan was not enough. Kolebev is quoted by Russian outlet Sovsport.ru as saying:
‘There were substantial discussions on Kokorin, but it did not happen. We vetoed a loan. I believe that Alexander deserves more than a loan.’
Whilst not the world-class forward Arsenal fans were crying out for, Theo Walcott’s sensational form recently has made it clear a signing of that calibre may not be required. Kokorin’s arrival would have provided adequate strength-in-depth, which will be crucial in the title race.
