The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are rather down in the dumps right now.
Indeed, while life back in the Premier League has been going swimmingly for the Magpies thus far, the loss at Burnley last night proved a huge disappointment and the absence of Mikel Merino was certainly a notable one amongst our Geordie contingent.
The Spaniard is believed is to be suffering with a back injury at the moment and, considering his impact on Tyneside since joining from Borussia Dortmund, the 21-year-old will be a sore miss. Thought to be heading to see a specialist this week, the fact he’ll probably miss the Bournemouth game is a huge blow.
Mo Diame failed to impress last night and his absence leaves Jonjo Shelvey as Newcastle’s only midfield creator, so it’s certainly a problem.
