Journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared some ‘more’ news with regards to Leandro Trossard’s proposed move to Arsenal.

The Lowdown: Talks opened

Taking to Twitter on Thursday morning, Romano revealed that the Gunners have ‘opened talks’ to try and sign Trossard from Brighton and Hove Albion, and an official bid is ‘ready’ for a permanent move.

Personal terms for the winger have been ‘already agreed’, and a deal could be done ‘soon’.

The move seemingly comes as a reaction to losing the race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk, with Mikel Arteta determined to add some depth to his attacking ranks this month.

The Latest: Long-term contract

Romano followed up his earlier tweet with some ‘more’ information on the move, saying that it will be a ‘long-term contract’ for Trossard, and that Mikel Arteta’s side could even close the deal ‘in the next hours’:

“More on Trossard deal scoop. Been told talks are very advanced as Arsenal are prepared to close the deal in the next hours. Not early stages but progressing fast for permanent move.

“Full agreement reached on personal terms, it will be long-term contract for Trossard.”

The Verdict: Interesting move

After missing out on Mudryk to London rivals Chelsea, it was vital that the Gunners moved swiftly on to new targets with the clock ticking away until the end of the transfer window.

The Trossard move is an interesting one as he is a lot older than Mudryk at 28, and is being given a ‘long-term’ deal according to Romano, which suggests that he will sign into his thirties minimum. This means that the Belgium international is unlikely to have much of a sell-on value, should the North Londoners wish to move him on later in his career.

Nonetheless, Arsenal needed another attacking option after the injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson, and Trossard actually offers the Premier League experience that Mudryk would not have been able to.

Lauded as ‘unreal‘ by Rio Ferdinand, and a ‘wizard‘ by Brighton podcaster Charlie Haffenden, he was very impressive before the break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with seven goals and three assists in the top flight, including a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Anfield (Transfermarkt).

He has since lost his place in the squad after a fallout with manager Roberto De Zerbi, although that relationship has reportedly thawed with him returning to training with the first team squad.

Moreover, it looks like the Gunners are going to get this deal done anyway, in what could prove to be a very smart piece of business as they look to chase down the Premier League title.
