The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been urging Fabian Delph to resign for the Yorkshire club after he played for England at Elland Road yesterday in the Three Lions 2-0 win over Costa Rica. The 28-year-old won the Premier League with Manchester City this season, although he’s claimed that not staying longer at Leeds is one of the regrets from his career.

Delph spent just two years at Elland Road after graduating from the academy in 2007 before leaving for Aston Villa in 2009. The versatile midfielder who can be played in central-midfielder, on the left and at left-back has now been at Manchester City for longer than he was at Leeds and there isn’t a fan of The Whites who wouldn’t have the England international back in a heartbeat.
If Delph was to make a sensational return to The Yorkshire Club, he could gain himself hero status by helping the club return to the lofty heights of the Premier League for the first time since the club was unceremoniously relegated from the top-flight back in 2004. The current 14-year absence, that will become 15 by the end of next season, is the longest period that Leeds have spent outside the top-flight in their history, and the return of Delph could be the key ingredient in ending their plight.

There isn’t a Leeds fan in the Tavern who would turn their nose up at a Premier League winning midfielder. Delph would be perfect at Elland Road with his experience and match-winning mentality being qualities that are desperately needed at the club at the moment.
