This summer brought an end to Arsene Wenger’s long-term run at the helm of the Gunners’ first team. After over two decades in charge, it was certainly time for the Frenchman to think about moving on, but replacing him was never going to be easy.
It was a long wait between the announcement of his departure and the arrival of a replacement, but Arsenal recently got just that in the form of Unai Emery.
Most notably, Emery was previously in charge of PSG, and he won a number of trophies over in France. Naturally, then, most were pleased with his appointment.
However, now, an event outside of Arsenal’s control has left fans calling for him to be replaced already. Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane announced on Thursday that he would be resigning from his post after winning the Champions League for the third successive time.
Zidane, of course, hasn’t been a first-team manager for very long, but his honours list is already longer than most top bosses, and so it’s fair to say that he’ll be a man in demand this summer.
Arsenal fans, at least, are desperate to see him at the Emirates – with fans calling for him to replace their new manager over on Twitter. Whilst most will naturally recognise that it will never happen, they’re still dreaming.
