Leigh Griffiths has done something that not many international footballers do as he’s opted to drop out of the Scotland squad for upcoming matches against Israel and Portugal. The Celtic man is supposedly dropping out of Alex McLeish’s squad to focus on his personal fitness and The Hoops love it.
BREAKING NEWS#Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths withdraws from @ScotlandNT squad for games v Israel & Portugal “to focus on his fitness”
— Sky Sports Scotland (@ScotlandSky) October 8, 2018
Griffiths decision to pull out of his nation’s squad is being applauded by Celtic fans, who would love to see a few more of their Scottish lads pulling out of the squad. The Scotland team is turning into a joke under Alex McLeish in the eyes of most of the Bhoys and the less Celtic lads who get picked the better as far the Parkhead faithful are concerned. If they lose any players to injury then the fans will be fuming and to see Griffiths focus on his fitness is a sigh to behold.
Previously, Griffiths has shone in the Scotland side. His best moment came at Hampden Park against England when he scored two late freekicks in a 2-2 draw back in June 2017, although those two goals make up half of his international strikes despite the fact he’s featured 19 times for his country. His Scotland record means little to the Bhoys, though, and they’ll be hoping he can keep his fitness up and be ready to come out firing against Hibs after the international break.

He was never going to get picked by to start anyway. McLeish has said as much. Better to concentrate on playing for his team. The Scotland team are now a joke with him as manager!
