Celtic fans have endured a fairly dreadful summer window and the failure to sign former Hibs star John McGinn despite extensive links throughout the course of it was certainly was one of the major narratives. Having moved to Aston Villa instead, the Scotland international is always likely to be a subject of debate amongst the Hoops faithful.
So, the 23-year-old’s performance against Albania in the UEFA Nations League win had Bhoys talking on Twitter last night. Some were ruining the club’s failure to bring him over to Glasgow from Easter Road, while others were delighted to have dodged a transfer bullet.
In fact, some may even be trying to convince themselves about the matter.
Certainly a divisive figure and now the midfield general for the national team, these have barely been McGinn’s best games, though his quality is obvious, having shown it regularly with both Hibs and in his early Villa days.
With that in mind, here’s a look at how Celtic fans reacted to McGinn’s Scotland showing last night.
Mcginn is an absolute bombscare, still yet to see him have a good game for scotland #SCOALB

John McGinn couldn't pass water. Celtic were right not to throw money at him #SCOALB

John McGinn has had a mare since he missed out on move to Celtic. Rotten

There is nothing in this game that has persuaded me that Celtic have missed out by not signing McGinn. I would have Callum McGregor any day of the week #SCOALB

Maybe this McGinn performance and the one from Friday for Scotland will make Celtic fans realise that we missed out on nothing more than an average player. #celtic #averagemcginn #scotland
