No one likes losing, then there’s losing to your closest rivals and then there’s losing to your closest rivals and having one of your best players injured in the process. Celtic fans watched on as they suffered the latter of those three, losing 1-0 to Rangers and watching on as Filip Benkovic was withdrawn on the stroke of half-time through injury.

Filip Benkovic is the one man who Celtic fans would love to throw millions at to bring to the club permanently. The on-loan Leicester City man is one of the most promising young defenders in the United Kingdom at the moment, and when he was subbed through injury a lot of the Hoops gave up on the spot at Ibrox yesterday, and it’s hard to blame them.
Brendan Rodgers’ capture of Benkovic on loan this season is one of the best signings of the season so far in the Scottish Premier League, and now that the Hoops look to have lost him it could well cost them more than just the three points at Ibrox. Fortunately, the club now has three weeks until they face Airdreonians in their next clash, but if Benkovic’s injury is long-term they could be stuffed.

The Hoops were gutted to see Benkovic miss the second half at Ibrox and will hope that the Croatian defender can use the three week break to get back fit and be ready for their next game.
