Celtic have had an offer for Hajduk Split defender Mario Vuskovic rejected.

That’s according to reliable reporter Nicolo Schira, who shared the news on Twitter on Friday evening. He claimed that the Hoops launched a €5m (£4.35m) bid for the 19-year-old, with the Croatian giants turning it down.

He added that Serie A side Torino are keen on Vuskovic, while Napoli asked about the centre-back in January. The Croatian has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season and is under contract with Hajduk Split until 2024.

Transfer Tavern take

Dominic McKay has only been in the door at Parkhead for less than a week, but it seems as if he’s already getting to work on potential summer signings.

Bringing in a new centre-back could be crucial for the Hoops. That’s because on-loan Shane Duffy will return to Brighton at the end of the season, Kristoffer Ajer has been linked with a move away and Christopher Jullien is sidelined with a serious injury.

That could leave the new Hoops manager with only Stephen Welsh as a recognised senior centre-back ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

It looks as though Celtic are trying to add to their defensive ranks, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they go back in with an improved offer for the Croatia under-21 international.
