Celtic: Bhoys to offer January contract to James McCarthy

Celtic will approach Crystal Palace star James McCarthy to offer him a contract in January, according to the latest reports.
McCarthy on Parkhead radar
The 30-year-old Irishman is a lifelong Bhoys supporter and has been playing his football in the Premier League since 2013. He has made 40 appearances (TransferMarkt) for the South London side since his £3m move from Everton in 2019 (via BBC Sport).
McCarthy is a well-respected asset to the Palace team, with manager Roy Hodgson describing him as an “excellent player” who is “technically fit” (cited by OTBSports).
TEAMTalk revealed that Celtic are ready to offer a long-term deal to bring him to Glasgow, whilst he also has interest from the likes of Burnley and Aston Villa.
The report added that should he agree a contract with the Parkhead club, it will be for a summer move with his contract of Palace due to expire in June 2022 (via TransferMarkt).
Transfer Tavern Verdict
It would be a dream move for the player if Celtic can pull this off but it seems as if the Hoops already have a lot of options in that area of the pitch already.
With Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham, Greg Taylor and David Turnbull to choose from already, the question remains there was be any more room at the inn.
That being said, Celtic must be confident in his ability to bring him straight into the first-team if they do make an approach but time will tell they do just that.
